Saudi Arabia records $1.54bln in POS transactions in one week

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia recorded SR15.799 billion in point-of-sale (POS) transactions during the week of August 23–29, 2026, compared with SR14.173 billion during the previous comparable period, according to the Saudi Central Bank’s (SAMA) weekly POS bulletin.

The Kingdom recorded 255.384 million POS transactions during the week.

The food and beverages sector recorded the highest transaction value at SR2.585 billion, across 59.134 million transactions, followed by other categories, which recorded SR2.363 billion from 42.809 million transactions.

Restaurants and cafes recorded 59.663 million transactions worth SR1.779 billion, while clothing and accessories recorded 11.643 million transactions worth SR1.414 billion.

Transportation recorded 7.401 million transactions worth SR1.133 billion, while fuel stations recorded 18.958 million transactions worth SR1.073 billion.

Education recorded 322,000 transactions worth SR1.096 billion, while health recorded 10.057 million transactions worth SR894.237 million.

Professional and business services recorded 16.056 million transactions worth SR872.810 million.

Culture and entertainment recorded 4.758 million transactions worth SR432.828 million, while furniture and household supplies recorded 2.678 million transactions worth SR430.019 million. Building and construction materials recorded 3.027 million transactions worth SR393.608 million.

Hotels recorded 866,000 transactions worth SR 282.808 million, while jewelry recorded 283,000 transactions worth SR275.619 million. Bakeries and sweets recorded 6.232 million transactions worth SR246.271 million.

Telecommunications recorded 5.411 million transactions worth SR208.280 million, while electronics and electrical appliances recorded 2.111 million transactions worth SR196.854 million.

Laundry services recorded 3.113 million transactions worth SR63.641 million, while public utilities and services recorded 862,000 transactions worth SR59.372 million.

At the city level, Riyadh recorded the highest POS transaction value, with SR5.498 billion across 83.537 million transactions. Jeddah followed with SR2.113 billion from 28.191 million transactions, while Dammam recorded SR 764.041 million from 9.977 million transactions.

Makkah recorded SR626.142 million from 9.678 million transactions, while Madinah recorded SR618.065 million from 9.646 million transactions.

Khobar recorded SR437.396 million from 5.055 million transactions, while Buraidah recorded SR392.099 million from 5.633 million transactions.

Tabuk recorded SR284.579 million from 4.960 million transactions, Hail recorded SR248.640 million from 4.396 million transactions, and Abha recorded SR215.221 million from 3.672 million transactions. Other cities recorded 28.043 million POS transactions worth SR1.156 billion.
